In CE for composites, materials selection is considered as a very important activity. Sapuan stated in his study on concurrent engineering (CE) that materials selection is considered as an important activity in CE as important as other activities like market investigation, design analysis, manufacturing consideration, component design, and assembly consideration. In this chapter only the work on selection of materials is considered but the work on selection of manufacturing processes will be discussed in Chapter 8. (1994) also suggested that an integral part of concurrent engineering is the systematic early selections of material and process combination for the manufacture of parts, which can then be ranked according to various criteria. Concurrent engineering has encouraged materials engineers and manufacturing engineers to take part in the product development at the early stage of design process ( Dieter, 2000).
